Happy Belated Birthday

Last Friday marked the one year anniversary of this site, and I totally forgot to give myself a gift. What started out as a failed application to write a Buffy the Vampire Slayer column for Pink Raygun has turned into the kind of media juggernaut of which the world barely notices. Sure, most of our hits come from Google Image Search. Mostly some version of the search term "squid+sex+MILF". But there are also plenty of regular readers who perhaps came originally for the hot, mature cephalopod action and have stayed for a little skeptically-bent entertainment. I must say I'm proud to operate a place on the Internet where you can learn a little bit about science and also giggle at things like this. (Warning: that link is totally safe for work.) With the addition of the Amateur Scientist Podcast, here's hoping next year will be even better than the first. Thanks to Lisa and John over at PRG, to Richard for making this site work and co-birthing the podcast, to Christian and Karl for adding a couple of welcome voices to the mix, to Sam for spreading the gospel of amateur science to the world's incest survivors, to Skepchick for linking here occasionally, and to all the guests who have graced the podcast with their presence. Except for Fred Phelps, Jr. That guy's a son of a bitch.
