What About the Flying Cars?

No sooner did I mention the Weekly Reader in the previous post than this nugget of news from the BBC popped up. It seems Dr. Paul Moller of Davis, California's Moller International is on the verge of realizing his forty-year-old dream of manufacturing and selling a consumer-grade flying car. He says his M200G, otherwise known as the "flying saucer", will go on sale in the next few months. True to its name, the saucer is a round craft that hovers about ten feet in the air. Dr. Moller hopes that brisk sales for the M200G will lead to the manufacture of his ultimate dream, the M400 SkyCar (pictured). As the BBC article notes, however, there may be a few unforeseen snags in Dr. Moller's plans. He's been working on this thing forever, with little progress beyond the creation of a prototype. He was even fined $50,000 by the SEC for making fraudulent claims to potential investors. Still, no one would love to see a sky full of Moller SkyCars more than me. I've already hired a ghostwriter for my upcoming non-fiction book Sky Rage: The Story of the Atlanta Skyway Tragedy. For a good time, try watching the official, CG-enhanced Moller International video of a SkyCar coming to the rescue during an office building fire. Titled "SkyCar Rescue", it is available here.
